The Georgia Supreme Court upheld an injunction by the Fulton County Superior Court prohibiting the State from moving forward with execution warrants for certain people on Georgia’s death row until conditions in a contract negotiated between the Attorney General’s Office and the capital defense community were met. In a concurring opinion, Justice Bethel emphasized that, “The state should keep its promises because the people of Georgia, who are the very source of the state’s sovereignty, are owed a government that honors its commitments.”
